Niko (Nicole Mathieu) was bornin Montreal, Quebec in 1958. She was born into an artistic family and felt it was inevitable that she would also become an artist. She led a nomadic life for ten years, working as a designer and sales & marketing supervisor in the fashion industry. These positions allowed her to travel to Toronto, Paris, and California. School of Fine Art and the renowned, Saidye Bronfman Centre as well as studying with artists, Carl Dubreuil and Nicole Bolduc. Spontaneity is extremely important in Niko's paintings. This reflects her personality, which does not accept any constraining structure. Moreover, the artist gives a large place for imagination and play with illusions and non-verbal expressions. Niko starts with an abstract background and allows these forms to direct the placement of each of her figures in her paintings. The faces she paints are sensual, powerful, and very expressive. She has a love of bright and rich colors and applies her paint liberally and spontaneously to create a piece that is alive with energy. She has had successful exhibitions in Canada, the United States, and Spain and her paintings are held in numerous collections. And since that day, NIKO won't go a single day without a brush in her hand! Her art is always evolving, it renews itself constantly. Its features are refined and become an inspiration to another.
